Chant, texte et conception, Nathalie Joly / mes Jacques Verzier et Simon Abkarian
Depuis dix ans, Nathalie Joly explore l’œuvre d’Yvette Guilbert, dont Simon Abkarian, metteur en scène du troisième volet du triptyque à découvrir en intégral au Théâtre du Soleil, dit qu’elle est une « matrice » qui « a ouvert un sillon prolixe et florissant : sans nous éloigner d’elle, nous suivons donc le chemin qu’elle a ouvert ». Au-delà du simple tour de chant, la comédienne redonne chair et profondeur à cette grande figure du patrimoine « engagée, drôle, poétique et audacieuse ». Le premier épisode (Je ne sais quoi) raconte ses débuts au cabaret, et s’articule autour de la longue et dense correspondance qu’elle entretint avec Sigmund Freud.

Le deuxième épisode (En v’la une drôle d’affaire) évoque la seconde Yvette, qui résilia ses contrats parisiens pour aller ouvrir une école de chant à New York et y enseigner son art du « parler chanter ». Troisième épisode avec Chansons sans gêne, lorsque, à partir de 1926, Yvette Guilbert commença une carrière cinématographique éblouissante, aborda un nouveau répertoire entre blues et surréalisme et intensifia son combat féministe. Cet engagement est un des fils conducteurs de la vie de cette artiste protéiforme et du spectacle qui honore cette femme multiple, « la plus moderne des chanteuses d’antan ».
