Drôle de comédie et drôle de noces annoncées qui finiront en poignante tragédie sacrificielle. Le Prince héritier du trône demande en mariage une roturière quasi muette, empotée et apathique. Un personnage féminin qui peut être qualifié d’antithéâtral, mais qui est aussi capable d’une incroyable force de questionnement et de résistance au monde. Le scandale provoque le surgissement de fantasmes inavoués au sein de la cour. « Derrière le vernis de la comédie, la sauvagerie est au travail ; derrière le théâtre, la réalité pointe. » souligne Jacques Vincey. « Ces personnages de cour nous ressemblent aussi car, comme tout à chacun, ils composent entre leurs aspirations intimes et le rôle qu’ils doivent jouer dans le « grand théâtre du monde ». Le monde irréel que Gombrovicz dépeint nous apparaît étrangement familier. Sauf que cette normalité glisse progressivement dans la monstruosité… » Capable de laisser émerger toutes sortes de nuances et de qualités de présence, Marie Rémond interprète Yvonne au sein d’une distribution d’acteurs de grand talent.
