Rarement William Christie aura dirigé musique aussi tardive. Créé en 1831, l’opéra Zampa de Ferdinand Hérold est bien loin des sonorités baroques dont le chef des Arts florissants s’est fait le héraut. Mais on attend justement beaucoup des timbres des instruments anciens, qui pourront gommer l’image parfois kitsch liée à cette musique. Car derrière la naïveté de certaines mélodies fourmillent des trésors d’harmonie et d’orchestration. Le livret de Mélesville relate avec esprit une histoire de pirates dans le style des romans d’aventure. Sur le plateau, l’équipe « maison » de Jérôme Deschamps et Macha Makeïeff tentera, espérons-le, de nous faire oublier le relatif échec de L’Etoile de Chabrier donnée en ouverture de saison, décevante par l’absence de rythme et la scénographie déjà vue. Le casting, composé de Richard Troxell dans le rôle-titre et de Patricia Petibon en Camille, ne pourra que nous convaincre de (re)découvrir cet opéra, sur les lieux de sa création.
