Pourquoi cet attachement à l’Inde dans votre vie et vos spectacles ?
Zazie Hayoun : J’aime beaucoup la culture indienne mais ce n’est pas une décision que j’ai prise de travailler sur elle. Il y a vingt-cinq ans que je vais en Inde et c’est plutôt une évidence qui s’est imposée à moi. Ce spectacle s’inscrit dans la continuité de mes précédents spectacles à cette différence près que cela fait quinze ans que je fais des spectacles en Inde avec des artistes indiens et que c’est la première fois que je fais un spectacle en français avec des artistes français.
Vous mêlez différents arts dans vos spectacles.
Z. H. : J’aime beaucoup travailler sur les transitions et j’aime bien lier le théâtre d’ombres, les marionnettes, le jeu, la musique. Quand on utilise plusieurs niveaux de jeu, on est amené à créer des transitions qui font naître la magie sur scène. Dans ce spectacle, on passe de la projection vidéo aux marionnettes, puis aux comédiens, le tout en harmonie.
Pourquoi ce choix d’évoquer le bazar ?
Z. H. : Le bazar c’est mon terrain de prédilection ! Je suis née dans le quartier du Marais, à Paris, qui, à l’époque, n’était pas un quartier chic ! On y croisait des vendeurs à la sauvette, des marchands de quatre saisons : tout un petit peuple qui n’existe plus. En Inde, ça existe encore, même si les grandes surfaces commencent à envahir le pays autour des grandes villes. Je retrouve dans le bazar un peu de la nostalgie de mon enfance : un monde à visage humain avec ses embrouilles, sa débrouille, ses camelots, ses hommes d’affaires du trottoir. Ainsi, le spectacle commence avec des bonimenteurs, qui proposent une huile miraculeuse, une méthode pour apprendre l’anglais en quinze jours… Puis apparaît cette maman qui raconte à son fils des histoires sur le bazar où il ne peut pas aller car il fait partie d’une classe sociale plus élevée et protégée.

Pourquoi et comment avez-vous intégré la tradition des miniatures à ce spectacle ?
Z. H. : Cette tradition remonte à la grande époque perse mais elle ne traite d’habitude que des sujets de cour et jamais du bazar ! Les miniatures évoquent des scènes de chasse, des scènes amoureuses dans les Zénana, c’est-à-dire les gynécées, dans les durbar, les festins, dans les jardins. J’avais envie de faire vivre le bazar à travers cette technique. J’ai retrouvé des miniaturistes en Inde pour créer les images et les infographistes Emmeline Lovisi Singh et Christophe De Martino ont retravaillé ce matériau pour fabriquer une sorte de dessin animé en deux dimensions. Ça a été un vrai bonheur de fabriquer ça avec les infographistes ! Le résultat est très joli, très poétique et fascine complètement les enfants !
Peut-on dire à ce propos que vous faites des spectacles pour les enfants ?
Z. H. : Y compris celui-là, j’ai toujours fait des spectacles tout public, pas seulement destinés aux enfants mais que les enfants peuvent voir. J’aime bien l’idée que mes spectacles soient faits pour toute la famille ; j’aime bien quand on peut aller tous ensemble voir un spectacle.
