Pour questionner la frontière entre l’humain et le monstre, le Munstrum Théâtre développe depuis une dizaine d’années un langage aussi plastique qu’orienté vers une recherche de sens. Dans leurs adaptations très libres du Chien, la Nuit et le Couteau de Marius von Mayenburg (2016) puis de plusieurs pièces de Copi dans 40 ° Sous Zéro (2019), les deux fondateurs de la compagnie, Louis Arène et Lionel Lingelser, font du masque l’élément central de leur univers qui « questionne notre rapport à la Mort, au Sacré et à la Beauté ». Accompagnés pour la première fois à l’écriture de Kevin Keiss, ils vont plus loin dans cette recherche en imaginant eux-mêmes une fable. Une « dystopie cinglante mais non dénuée d’espoir », disent-ils, dont le héros éponyme est l’un des derniers humains survivants dans un monde dirigé par les animaux et peuplé de robots corvéables à merci. Pour les six acteurs du spectacle, la quarantaine d’hommes, d’animaux et de robots de Zypher Z forment un riche espace de jeu, un laboratoire où questionner « l’effondrement désormais annoncé de l’humanité et sa barbarie omniprésente ».
